Photo Assignment 2

Shoot 3 purposeful images this week, each with a clear point of emphasis, and post them on your blog by Saturday; include a brief artist’s statement with each photo (Why did you take this photo? What was your intention? Why, specifically, did this image speak to you? Do you believe you were successful? Why or why not?).

Photo #1

I tried to stretch myself this week by only taking photos on my cheap Chinese phone. I wanted to focus on leading lines and light to draw the audience's eye. For this first photo, was walking past the hfac and the way the light was shining through the bars, both soft and harsh at the same time...I knew I had to take the shot. I love how the lines draw the eyes to the bars. I think I was able to capture it pretty well, even with the phone at night.

Photo #2

Similar idea on this one, where the light draws the viewers eye (hopefully). I also loved the aesthetic of the golden hour, something nostalgic about the warm light flowing through the glass doors. The light bloom on the plaque near the end of the hall was not intentional, not sure how I feel about it...certainly draws attention, but to what? I don't know, maybe it's important to the story...

Photo #3

This last photo I took in my room. I noticed that as the biggest and most vibrant thing on the wall, the eye was naturally drawn there. In order to increase that emphasis, I placed the led light panel above the painting. I think without that light it wouldn't be as clear.

Shooting with my phone certainly presented a challenge, but it also forced to not rely on the shallow depth of field and fancy perks of my normal camera.

I love that you chose to use light as a guide towards each picture's point of emphasis. I feel like typically, we tend to lean towards maybe the "easier" way of leading the eye by using lines, but by using light you still accomplished the same goal, and your pictures look dope.

Tanner, your photos are always so beautiful! I really like how you used light in each photo to help guide the eye to the point of emphasis, especially in the first two pictures. The contrast between light and dark is really interesting and beautiful.
